This book includes the Turkish grammar lessons taught at the Istanbul University Faculty of Literature. The first edition was made in 1958. The second edition was made in Istanbul in 1962 and the third edition was made in Sofia in 1967. In the fourth edition, the work has been revised and expanded. This grammar is not the grammar of the general language, but the grammar of the western Turkish language. While the grammar of western Turkish is given in this book, Turkish is studied in a fairly new grammatical scheme. We can gather the principles on which this scheme is based around the following two points: As we deal with Turkish not within the framework of eastern or western grammars, as is often the case, but according to its own structure, to connect the grammatical forms of the language, which seem to be large and scattered, into a system. We tried to adhere to these two principles, which we can summarize as approaching Turkish within its own structure and capturing the real system of the structure of Turkish, on the one hand, on the condition that we do not go beyond the general grammatical concepts and on the other hand, we tried to stick to it as much as possible, so the scheme we propose has emerged. Of course, a grammar taught at the university level will not be a practical grammar. Therefore, in this book, grammatical forms were not given as clichés or patterns to be memorized, but were handled according to the problems of Turkish, examined in detail from various aspects, and passed through the mnakasha filter. Like the style of the work, its form, which is free from big and eye-catching titles, clichés and ruler arrangements, comes from this and aims to teach grammar based on reasoning instead of memorization.
