Oscar Wilde (1854-1900): Irish genius writer. As the author states in his preface, which can be read as "art is for art" manifesto, it is the quintessence of literary works in which evil and virtue are used as artistic materials. Dorian Gray, whose wish for eternal youth and beauty is granted, and who gradually degenerates away from the values that make man human, attains immortality with Wilde's rare expression in world literature.
