New Journal Articles Ziya Gökalp / Ötüken Publication Year of Publishing: 2018Print: 1Number of Pages: 759Paper Type: Book PaperSize: 12 x 19,5Language: TurkishVolume: Paper CoverISBN-10: 6051557151Author: Ziya Gökalp One in Istanbul, one under the name of Yeni Mecmua, the other is Mehmet Talat Two separate journals were published by Cemal. The first of these began to be published weekly on July 12, 1917, with the financial support of the Committee of Union and Progress under the leadership of Ziya Gökalp. Although its owner and responsible director appears to be Mehmet Talat (Talat Pasha), one of the leading members of the Union and Progress, the party did not directly intervene in the publication of the magazine. Ziya Gökalp, who took over the management of the magazine, was arrested and exiled to Malta. On January 1, 1923, under the direction of Falih Rıfkı, the magazine, which returned to its publication life in fifteen-day periods starting from the 67th issue, did not have a long life and ended its publication life with its 90th issue on December 20, 1923. The journal, which is affiliated with the view of Turkism and nationalism, gathered the scholars, ideas and literary men of the period around it, and produced a level publishing in line with the phrase "weekly journal on science, art and morality" under its title. With Ziya Gökalp's desire, scientific subjects were tried to be written in a language and style that everyone could understand. Names such as Köprülüzade Mehmet Fuat Ahmet Refik Necmettin Sadık, especially Ziya Gökalp, whose articles are frequently encountered in fields such as sociology, literature and history, were also influential in determining the publication policy of the journal. Yahya Kemal supported Gökalp from the beginning of its preparation, and he offered the name "journal" to the magazine, and Gökalp added the adjective "new" to this name. The magazine, which has a wide staff of writers, has sections such as "Week Musahabesi", "İçtimaiyat", "Literary Journalism", "History", "Idea Life", "Literary History", "Tarih-i Art", "Music" and "Architecture". Gökalp, who mostly wrote articles under the title of "İçtimaiyat", wrote a lot of articles for the magazine dealing with the past and present of Turkish culture and civilization with a Turkist view. Some of his ideas, which would later form the Principles of Turkism, were revealed for the first time in these writings.
